My Eames ancestry begins with my 4th great-grandmother, Joanna Penry Eames of Lisbon, Connecticut. She was the 3rd great-granddaughter of Robert Eames of Woburn, Massachusetts, the immigrant ancestor of my line of the Eames family in the United States. Robert Eames was first recorded in Charlestown, Masssachusetts in 1651, after which he settled at Woburn. He married Elizabeth and had 8 children, born between 1653 and 1668. His son John, my 8th great-grandfather, settled at New London, Connecticut in 1696, where he married Abigail Morgan, daughter of Richard Rose and Hopestill (Merrick) Morgan. The Diary of Joshua Hempstead contains a great deal of information about my Eames ancestors. Members of my line of this branch of the Eames family remained in New London County, Connecticut for at least 11 generations spanning nearly 300 years. My line of descent from Robert Eames, the immigrant ancestor, down to my maternal grandmother is:
